What has been completed for Masterson Station Park equestrian activities?
- The Indoor Arena, which has been plagued by poor footing, a leaky roof and several families of raccoons, is now a pleasant indoor venue for riding. Removal of the old ceiling brought in more light and created a more open atmosphere. The old Deteriorating kickboards were removed and replaced. The old footing was replaced with river sand and mixed with sodium sulfate to aid in dust control
- The Judges box at the hunter/jumper rind has been completely renovated and is no longer the dangerous, decaying eyesore that it had become.
- Several tons of sand has been added to the two sand dressage rings on top of the dressage hill.
- Two additional permanent sand full size dressage arenas in the Dressage Complex have are nearing completion. These rings will eliminate the problem of competing on the grass in wet weather. Completions is scheduled for mid-winter.
- A dedicated gravel drive to the Dressage complex has been completed. This will create easier access to the complex as well as reduce driving on the grass field.
- The stone pillar entranceway off Spurr Road is now completed. This provides a beautiful entrance that will characterize the open and equestrian use of the park.
The impact of the World Equestrian Games on the Lexington area and its equine facilities remain to be seen, but with the proximity of Masterson to the Kentucky Horse Park, Masterson Park is a logical facility for overflow before, during and after the Games.
